Today's Challenge:

Part One:  The Medicine Cabinet!  -- 10 Gold Star reward!

Part Two:  The second part of today’s challenge is to touch-up anything from last week that has managed to slip back into the old pattern of mess or disorganization.  I've noticed that certain areas of the home seem to cling to chaos and dirt.  Keep an eye on those areas in the household/work that quickly filled once cleared.  Why?  What was drawn back to that area?  In your behavior, what can you adjust to avoid the same pattern?  What shift in energy can you make to allow the chi to flow free with revitalization?  Are you putting too much importance on the wrong thing?  A crippling belief?  A misconstrued idea?

Only you know.

Last year I was super proud of myself for cleaning out the hall closet.  I tossed, tossed, tossed!  And gave away a thing or two.  I labeled what was left in plastic boxes.  I was so proud of myself.  I actually managed to keep this closet in order for about seven months and then, blammo!  Several of the shelves were a jumble...AGAIN!  I was particularly angry that the pots and pans I'd hung fell off the wall.  Don't buy into that "no harm" command advertisement -- ripped the paint right off the drywall -- no kidding.  Big long strips of paint and drywall peeled right off.  And yes, I had the right weight limit.  Seems that when it is really humid?  The weight of the command strip on the paint ribbons right off like an onion skin!  Back to monkey hooks.

My closet fell into disarray, almost over-night!  What gives?  I thought about what was happening in the home environment at that time.  On the outside, everything was fine.  I stained the front porch by myself, dug an additional garden bed by hand, painted the foundation of the house, and I was having a blast organizing projects for my friends and students to do every other week.  The family was perking along, and we began preparing for our trip to Maui (which was marvelous).  My WhisperMagick shoppe was doing fine.  But, on the inside, I was dealing with the idea that I am getting old.  I am changing and I'm trying to do it gracefully, lol.  I remember a particularly vivid memory of my father at 65 telling me that aging sucks.  He was leaning on a snow shovel in the middle of a blizzard, shaking his head and sighing as I attempted to herd him back toward the house and into the warmth.  "We have a snowblower, Dad.  Just what do you think you are doing out here with that dinky shovel?"

As I stared at the portal that leads to the spirits of jumble, I realized that this closet represented the inner me.  My Dad was right in some respects -- aches, pains, you lose your looks, your body rebels, you concentrate on the dumbest things, people ignore you because you are no longer of use or "in vogue", where others dump your friendship because you are monotonous and dull, you can't find your damned car in the parking lot (so, okay, the fact that they are all the same bloody color and boring shape means nothing, right?)...; but, like Danny DiVito says in the new Jumanji The Next Level, I suddenly understood that getting old is truly a gift.  Aging is a unique life experience that not everyone gets to have.  I realized that it is okay to be an Old Biddy as long as I do it my way with a little flair and lots of energy!  The secret is to keep moving and to strive to learn something new every single day!  It is never too late to embrace a different skill or drench yourself in the cleansing waterfall of information that is so readily available in these marvelous, prosperous times!

Charge!  Take that you closet, you!

What is the messiest area in your environment?  What might it represent?  What can you do to change the web that has helped to create the tangle...within and without?

Silver's Update:  I've spent the past several days reorganizing and clearing.  I've also moved household decor around, packed some items away, and gave several bags to charity.  I made sure all the bird feeders were full before the snowstorm and made a new wreath for the door for spring (okay, so I'm a little early).  Tomorrow, I'll tell you about the quilt I'm making and why its theme is...
